REPORT OF THE EVENT

Name of the event: INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF DENTAL MEDICINE

Objective –

The mouth is the window into the human health. This course imparts an overview of dental medicine to engage and educate improving the oral health of patients. This course aims to review topics in dental medicine including scope of the field, what to expect in function and some of the many ways that dysfunction may present for different patients. The course will include discourse on diseases of mouth, jaw, and tooth anatomy, pathology and treatment. This course starts from basic concepts and proceeds to review trends in current research and technology.

Report- The inauguration ceremony was conducted in the Seminar Hall (Lecture Hall I), Ground Floor, Medical College. The programme started at 12pm and the session began by prayers, followed by welcoming the gathering and the programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Mohan Thomas.

Day 1 Dr. Pavithra. R began the session with the talk on Introduction to Dental Medicine and Its Relations to Public Health. She spoke about the educational opportunities in dental medicine while also outlining the public health impact of dental medicine. Session was concluded with a practice test.

Day 2 began with Dr. Karpagaselvi K discussing forms and functions of the oral cavity. She discussed in brief the embryology of the oral cavity and tooth eruption.

Day 3’s lectures were delivered by Dr. Mahesh B.S. he spoke about comprehensive evaluation of dental patient needs. This was followed by demonstration of Physical Examination – Head, Neck and Face, Cranial Nerve, TMJ & Intraoral Examination.

 

Day 4 started with a lecture by Dr. Nisha K J where she discussed about Most Common Dental Diseases Affecting Teeth and Periodontium. It was followed by a presentation on Oral Mucosal Disease. Herpes, Aphthous Ulceration, Lichen Planus, Leukoplakia and Erythroplakia were some of the diseases dis

 

Day 5 was conducted by Dr. Naveen Kumar N who spoke about the science of pain affecting the intraoral and extraoral structures. Common Orofacial Pain Conditions like Temporomandibular Disorders, Articular Disc Disorders and Arthritic Conditions were discussed. Imaging, Management of TMDs and Trigeminal Neuralgia were briefly explained.

Day 6 being the concluding session was conducted by Dr. Nirupama D.N and had a wide range of discussions on overview of dental specialties, its scope and modalities of treatment with introduction to Aesthetic Dentistry.

Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Pavithra K Ramanna which was followed by certificate distribution.

The Program was well received and appreciated by all the the attendees.

REPORT OF COURSE ON “BIOMEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT”

To understand the need for Biomedical Waste Management, Present Scenario, Notifications and Amendments. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in the Seminar Hall. The programme started at 12pm and the session began by prayers, followed by welcoming the gathering and the programme was inaugurated by Principal    Dr. Mohan Thomas Nainan. Dr.K Karpaga Selvi  began the session with the Introduction, Dr.Harish Kumar M  talk on Biomedical waste management with introduction, Dr.Jayalakshmi K on Steps to manage waste ,Dr.Naveen Kumar  on need for biomedical waste management, Dr.Lokesh P on  present scenario notifications and amendments & Dr.Sheron Mathew Koshy on  major difference between bmw rules. Pre test & Post test was conducted to evaluate the need & knowledge about Biomedical waste management among the participants & attendance certificate was awarded.

Add-on course on “Tobacco Cessation Counselling-A Learned Skill” was held for Third BDS Undergraduate Students on 7th, 14th , 21st ,28th  April & 5th, 12th May 2023 from 10am to 4pm in Lecture Hall-2 by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences & Research Centre. Lectures were delivered by Dr. Satya Narayana D for Module 1, 2 & 3 and  Dr. Kiran Kumar. K for 4, 5& 6 Modules. Around 58 participants from VIDS& RC took part in the programme.

REPORT OF THE EVENT

A program on “Vacuum forming and its application in dentistry” was conducted by the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry on 1/4/23, 8/4/23, 15/4/23, 22/4/23, 29/4/23 and 6/5/23 between 12 to 5pm, for IV BDS Students.

The programme was conducted by Dr Jaya Naidu(Prof&HOD), Dr. Sujay Kumar(Reader), Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research Centre who has undergone training in Hypnosis under EKAA Foundation.

The program was attended by IV BDS students with a total of 38 participants.

The program generated very positive feedback.

REPORT OF THE EVENT

 An Add on course on Laser in dentistry was conducted by Department of Periodontics at Vydehi Institute of Dental sciences and Research Centre, Bangalore. The entire course was divided into 10 sessions which was started on 04th June 2022 at 2pm-5pm and continued on to next 5 Saturdays till July 2022.

— Undergraduate of Vydehi Institute of Dental Sciences and Research centre participated in the course. A brief introduction about the programme was given by Dr.Nisha, Professor and Head, Dept of Periodontics. The lectures were given by Dr.Sanjeela – Dept of Periodontics, Dr.Shruthi – Dept of Periodontics, Dr. Parichaya-Dept of Periodontics, Dr.Anjana  – Dept of Periodontics ,Dr.Nirupama -Dept of Conservative dentistry and endodontics, Vydehi Institute of Dental sciences and Research Centre, Bangalore.

It was a program with active participation from the students. The speakers were able to enlighten the students with their knowledge in the laser dentistry. The speakers highlighted the importance of laser in different case scenario. All the participants were awarded with a participation certificate.

At the end of the session the speakers were presented with a certificate of appreciation by Dr. Nisha, Professor and Head, Department of Periodontics, Vydehi Institute of Dental sciences and Research Centre, Bangalore.
